About Me
- Name: Justy
- Location: BC, Canada
I'm the proud Momma of "Son" who was born at home in Aug 2003.
I discovered eBooks back in 2005 when I got my iPaq 2490. Once I discovered I could have as many books as I wanted with me all the time without breaking my back I was hooked. The best thing is the development of eInk eBook Readers, specifically the Cybook and BeBook. Much nicer on my eyes, I don't think I'll ever go back to paper books again. In fact I still have a paperback to finish that I started in December 2007, just before I got my Cybook. I may have to find it in eBook format. :)

Time to Start
- Christmas stocking for Cole (my son): it just needs the toe to be finished and then it will be ready for him to use on his second Christmas ever. I am doing the "Chubby Stocking" from 18 Holiday Treasures to Knit and I goofed and did one extra repeat of the Fair Isle band so then of course I had to make the plain knitting part of the leg longer to balance it out. I just hope it looks ok at the end :)
- Rambling Rows Afghan by Cottage Creations: this one is for Cole as well, but only because I wanted to try out the pattern with the "Infant Afghan" size first and don't know of any other babies that are being 'cooked' at the moment. I am making it in really really bright colours too. The main (C) colour is crayon Red, the accent least used colour (A) is Neon Orange, the supporting colours are (B) Blue, (D) Lime Green, (E) Yellow.
I am really enjoying making this blanket, the colours are working well together and I like the fact that there will be no sewing up at the end. It took me 3 rectangles to figure out that they really meant it when they said to pick up "the strand nearest you" at the very edge of the cast-on edge. My join looks much neater now :)
I am up to block 7 which means I am almost finished the top edge. - Vested Interests by Little Turtle Knits: This one is also very close to being finished, I just have to finish off the neck shaping of the front left, join the shoulders and then do the ribbing around the neck and arm holes and it is done. I am using Bernat denimstyle in stonewash a lovely light blue/white twist which is soooo soft, I just love the feel of it, it will be nice and cozy for Cole. I picked the size for this one based on a "Baby Gap" vest that Cole already has which says it is 18 month but is much bigger than I thought. The result is that I am making a Size 4 vest for my 14 month old baby!! It will be big on him, but the hope is that it will last him a loonnngggg time :)
- Cozy shawl from Knitty.com: I am on my 2nd or 3rd repeat on this one using a lovely varigated yarn. I am using "Schachenmayr Aurora Color" which is a Cotton/Acrylic blend, in the Stonewash Blues colourway so there is no white and lots of blue blending. It will have a different feel to it than the silk yarn that was called for but it is the same gauge and cotton doesn't 'give' the same way that silk doesn't 'give' so it should knit up similarly. It is also a ribbon yarn so the end product should be very interesting. I am liking how the pattern is turning out and wondering if I shouldn't have picked a solid colour to show off the lace a bit more. Maybe next time.
- Charlottes Easy Lace Shawl from Fiber Trends: This one has been on the needles for YEARS!! My mother had some lovely blue mohair and wanted to make something simple so the yarn store sold her this pattern and some metal 8mm needles. There is nothing wrong with the pattern it is nice and simple only a few rows to keep track of and I would imagine that it's easy to see where you are when you aren't working with a fuzzy yarn. I really think that the yarn shop should have given her a pattern for a simple garter stitch triangle and some sticky plastic or wood needles and sent her on her way. She ended up passing on the yarn and the pattern to me so that I could make it for her. The yarn is sooo light and airy that it just slides off the metal needles and stitches disappear into the fuzz. I purchased some bamboo needles so that I can finish it with a bit less frustration. I am about 2/3 of the way done I think but just can't make myself pick it up again.
Wow, when I started the list I really thought I only had 3 projects. Amazing how many of those things just sneak in :)
I am home sick today so I think I'll just have to work on one of my more mindless projects and maybe finish something. This would mean either the Stocking or the Vest. I'm voting for Stocking since it is soooo very close to done and it would be nice to have a FO instead of just a WIP, but then the vest is very very soft and easy to work with. We shall have to wait and see which one jumps into my hands when I am ready to knit.
I will try to get some pictures of works in progress, but hubby is in the middle of a photography kick and takes both digital cameras to work with him each day "just in case." If I don't post any other pictures, I'll try to at least post the finished products.
